Harmony Islam Religion of Peace - Aloys Budi Purnomo PTeologi Wedhabakti, Yogyakarta (1996), my lecturer Prof. Dr. H. Amin Abdullah, opened my understanding, that Islam is a religion of peace and promoting harmony. Therefore, Muslims are obliged to build a life in peace and harmony with everyone, all people, regardless of religion and belief. A true Muslim life in the spirit of total submission to God, which is peace.

The word Islam is rooted from the Arabic word, SLM, nouns derived from Aslama which means surrender to God. That is why Islam nuanced peace, harmony, and resignation. Islam is a religion that is based on total submission to Allah.

Borrowing the idea of Mary Jameelah in Islam in Theory and Practice (Lahore, Sant Nagar, 1967:37), any person who converts to Islam is called Muslim. A true Muslim will not be a fanatic, but loves peace, promote harmony and security for others.

In Arabic, the word used for harmony is ta'aluf. Ta'aluf means intimacy, closeness, harmony, and intimacy, and mutual understanding. Another word for harmony in Arabic is tawafuq, meaning that approval,
agreement, treaty, and suitability, appropriateness, harmony (J Milton Cowan, ed, A Dictionary of Modern Written Arabic, London, Macdonald & Evans Ltd., 1974).

Islam is a tolerant religion as lived by the Prophet Muhammad after the conquest of Mecca. At that time, the Prophet made it clear to everyone, including the enemies are conquered, to continue to feel comfortable and safe. In fact, the churches and synagogues still be holding their worship services and without having overwhelmed with fear.

The experience of the Prophet Muhammad gave an overview and understanding to us of the face image of Islam as a religion of peace and harmony. Prophet Muhammad was chosen by God to preach the message of peace and harmony. And that's what the real face of Islam, uphold tolerance.

Dr Haykal, scientists from Egypt, Director of Islamic Studies in Madrid confirmed, the Prophet Muhammad is a big figure in the history of humanity because of the attitude and the nature of his amazing. Because the Prophet changed history, a living example of morality for humanity throughout the ages (Pascal Paulus OP, Harmony in Islam, 2002: 161).

Thus, the life of Prophet Muhammad provides a good illustration, beautiful, and bright to us on the face of Islam as a religion of harmony. He was the model for Muslim life and a teacher of humanity that puts the peace and harmony. Therefore, I agree with Jamal MA Al-Nessafi, Kuwait Ambassador to Indonesia, in 2002, which confirms that most moslems in Indonesia love peace.
Strategic Steps To face of Islam of peace and harmony can be displayed in this country, five of which contemplated the idea of Dr. Syed Rifat (Focus, 2002:162), an Egyptian intellectuals, politicians, and journalists need to be a strategic action figures of Islam in Indonesia.

First, Islam must be freed from the hands of Muslims who abuse the name of selfish interests that actually tarnished the face of Islam. Second, youth of Islam to hold the ideals, values and principles of true Islam and humanist.

Third, Islamic intellectuals have joined hands to form and develop a more humane society based on Islamic authority. Fourth, it takes courage to reject various admixture of religion and religious ideas are extreme, radical, and the fundamentalists. Fifth, work with mass media to transform lives with the light of thought and Islamic authenticity.

Hopefully more and more Muslims in Indonesia shows the authenticity of a true face of Islam as a religion which preached peace, harmony, and harmony among mankind. Let us live in peace as brothers and sisters who both inherited the faith of our fathers Abraham, the sacrifice, sincerity, and obedience is remembered on the feast of Eid al-Adha.
